Huge police presence near Edinburgh recycling centre after man's body is found in woods

A heavy police presence remained in Craigmillar as police stood guard following the discovery of a body on Saturday.

Pictures from the area show a massive police presence as the "unexplained" death is investigated by Police Scotland.

The grim discovery was made at around 1pm on Saturday, with cops called the Old Dalkeith Road near the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

The body was reported to have been found near the side of the road , with the Craigmillar Recycling Centre closed whilst enquiries are ongoing.

The body has not yet been identified, and cops are treating the death as "unexplained".

Old Dalkeith Road has remained closed throughout Sunday.

Confirming the incident, a Police Scotland spokesperson told Edinburgh Live : “At around 1pm on Saturday, August 22 the body of a man was found in a wooded area near Old Dalkeith Road, Edinburgh.

"The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances.”

Edinburgh Council confirmed the recycling centre would be closed today and Monday (23 August), with a decision on whether the site will open on Tuesday to be announced tomorrow.
