'Huge police presence' as man found dead in Speke

Emergency services are in Speke after a man was found dead this morning.

Witness reports said there was "a large police presence" and forensics at the scene after the grim discovery in Parade Crescent today.

Police confirmed officers and an ambulance was called to Middleton Court at 6.45am where the body of a 70-year-old man was found at the premises - a retirement housing scheme.

An investigation has been launched and at this stage the man's death is being treated as unexplained.

One witness told the ECHO: "There's a huge police presence at the old people's home in Speke situated behind the post office.

"Not sure what's happened but forensics just turned up."

Police say enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of his death.

A police spokeswoman told the ECHO: "We can confirm officers attended a care home in Speke this morning following reports of a sudden death.

"Police and the North West Ambulance Service were called to the premises, on Parade Crescent, just before 6.45am where a man in his 70s was sadly found deceased."

At this time officers are treating the death as unexplained.

A blue police tent had been erected at the front of the complex this morning.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of his death.

His next of kin have been informed.

She added: "At this time officers are treating the death as unexplained. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of his death, and to formally identify the man and inform his next of kin."
