Huge plumes of smoke visible for miles over Manchester city centre after fire at scrap yard

Huge plumes of smoke drifted across Manchester city centre and were visible for miles after a fire at a scrap metal yard.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed there were no reported injuries.

The fire was reported at a yard between Cornbrook Road and the towpath for Bridgewater Canal, near to the city centre, at around 6.35pm on Wednesday.

The location is close to Dinton Street, behind the Cornbrook Metrolink station.
