Huge plume of smoke drifts across major road after car burst into flames

A huge plume of smoke drifted across the M1 after a car burst into flames.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the crash this afternoon which caused delays.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

Firefighters extinguished the flames with a high pressure hose.

Dublin Fire Brigade tweeted: "Firefighters extinguished a car on fire on the M1 Northbound earlier this afternoon. Motorway traffic was backed up on both sides for a time as smoke drifted across the carriageways.

"A high-pressure hose reel was used to fight the fire. No injuries."
