Huge play centre with outdoor splash park and adults pool bar set for Llanelli beachfront

A children's play centre in Llanelli has announced its plans for a huge new development near the town's beach front.

The Play King, which has been operating in Dafen since 2011, has revealed its plans to relocate to the old CEM Days Car show room in Sandy Road.

The plans to occupy the 17,000 square foot area include both indoor and outdoor soft play facilities, a bowling alley, a sports court, indoor and outdoor go-karting, a sensory room and a splash park.

And the ambitious project also includes something for adults with a themed diner, Costa cafe and a licensed pool bar also planned for the area opposite Graig College.

The Play King in Dafen industrial estate has become a popular location for children's birthday parties and has even hosted events with big name reality stars since it opened in 2011.

The soft play site closed in March when the UK lockdown was announced and has since been planning the new move and aims to open its doors to new customers by October this year.

Plans have been met with enthusiasm by the local community in Llanelli who said the new venture would encourage visitors to come to the area and create more jobs.

Posting to social media, The Play King said: "Firstly, we at The Play King would like to thank all of our customers for an incredible 9 years of trading.

"We are thrilled to now be able to share with you our exciting plans. The move has already been completed and the fit-out of the exciting new premises is underway."

Work on the nearby Llanelli Wellness Village was also due to start at the end of the summer but has since been postponed. The new development is to include a wellness hub featuring a new leisure centre and swimming pool, a community health hub, a range of assisted living accommodation and sports facilities.

Many locals have welcomed the developments in the area because of new tourism, trade and employment opportunities, but others have expressed concerns over traffic in the already congested area.

Drivers have previously branded the route from Llanelli to Burry Port a 'nightmare' and said that during prime time traffic the six mile stretch can take up to an hour, and worry that new developments will add to the problems.

But others in the community have argued that the new Play King development's peak times will not be the same as usual working hours and therefore shouldn't contribute to the traffic in the area.
