Huge Paisley bonfire had 'fireworks shooting into crowd' as flames seen from 'miles away'

Emergency services have been called to a massive bonfire which was started on a Paisley street.

A shocking video from the scene shows huge flames leaping into the air and moving worryingly close to nearby street lights.

Fireworks were also let off during the unofficial event with police arriving at the scene, on a grassy area near Lomond Crescent, shortly before 8pm.

A large crowd gathered to watch the bonfire and fireworks in a Paisley street on Friday night (UGC)

An eyewitness told the Daily Record that stray fireworks were ‘let off into the crowd’ while members of the public could be seen throwing household items onto the burning pile.

They said: “We were driving and could see the flames from miles away so we went to see what was happening.

It is understood that police were called to the scene shortly before 8pm (Daily Record)

"I would say there were more than 100 people there with kids and babies in prams.

"Some were chucking furniture on the bonfire."

It is not known whether anyone was hurt by the stray pyrotechnics.

Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for comment.
