Huge North East Afternoon Tea event will deliver food to the door and live entertainment

Cafes, delis, hotels and caterers across the region are getting together to deliver afternoon teas for a special charity fund-raiser this May to raise money for Blood Cancer UK.

A range of food outlets across the North East, including the Grainger Market in Newcastle, will be helping to serve up the Bloody Big Afternoon Tea event on May 30 and everyone is being encouraged to join the fun.

And, besides being in for an array of tasty treats on offer for delivery from a mix of businesses, families will be able to take part in raffles in the run-up to the day and then get together - virtually - to enjoy a Facebook Live event from 4pm when there will be a quiz and games.

The cost for an afternoon tea is £12.95 for one (and why not? there's nothing wrong with treating yourself); £25 for two or £30 for a family.

Those interested can contact their chosen food venue direct to check what's on offer and place their order.

Among those taking part is Two Sweet Peas in County Durham which, for instance, is offering sandwiches, pie, scones, fruit or cheese and cakes and some venues are also offering a collection option.

A spokesman for the event said: "We'll go live at 4pm with a quiz for you all and look out for raffles and other fun to get involved with before the day."
