Revised designs for more than 160 homes on the site of an Edinburgh Taoist Tai Chi studio have been presented to city planners.
Housebuilder Dandara initially submitted proposals for 113 homes in a mixture of flat and mews-style form on the border of Lochend Park at Marionville Road in January, winning initial consent from council chiefs.
However, the firm has returned with altered plans for the brownfield site, just yards from the highly-anticipated new Meadowbank Stadium, which will see an additional 50 properties included in the development.
Architects 56three say the increased density will ‘allow for greater variation in the style of homes’.
In a statement, to planners, the applicants said: "The updated proposal has been informed by positive pre-application discussions with the City of Edinburgh Council and takes into account the key planning constraints and design principles that were a factor in the approval of the previous application.
"The proposed development seeks to make more efficient use of this highly accessible, sustainable site, by providing much-needed housing."
Previous designs by CDA called for a central courtyard to be created set back from the busy thoroughfare, with bin and bike stores located in the ground floor of each block.
Each building is planned to be around five to seven storeys in height, comprising a mix of open plan studios, one and two-bedroom apartments.
Three-bedroom mews houses and townhouses are also to be included in the design with 25 per cent of the stock designated for affordable housing.
An online consultation on the plans is due to be held on Wednesday, August 4, but feedback is accepted until August 18.
