Huge new Edinburgh development gets go ahead for 134 plush new family homes

A huge new Edinburgh housing development is set to shoot up in Gilmerton after plans were given the green light this week.

Taylor Wimpey East Scotland have confirmed they have been granted planning permission from the City of Edinburgh Council for the project located in Gilmerton.

Encompassing 134 plush new homes, the developer has been waiting on the project since May 2022 when they first aquired the land next to Gilmerton Station Road.

With the land currently empty, a selection of open space is set to be retained and improved to give residents further outdoor areas, with work to begin in the next few weeks.

Pauline Mills, Land and Planning Director for Taylor Wimpey East Scotland adds: “We are delighted to confirm that an application for Approval of Matters Specified by Condition has been granted planning permission for our development of new homes on land off Gilmerton Station Road in South Gilmerton, Edinburgh.

“We believe this development will be a great further addition to the local area and it will complete the Gilmerton South masterplan vision. It is our intention to start pre-construction works within the next few weeks and we will keep the local community informed about our next steps.

“As well as an impressive range of new homes, our development will also provide a range of economic benefits for the local Gilmerton and wider Edinburgh area which includes supporting over 160 jobs per year of construction, as well as the attraction of new customers to local businesses from those who choose to live in one of the new homes this development aims to deliver.”
