Builders are currently transforming the former Habitat store near Old Market Square into a new KFC restaurant - and it is almost complete.
The famous Colonel Sanders signs have gone up as well as seats, tables, and the restaurant counter.
The Angel Row site would become the second KFC restaurant in the city centre - there is one near the intu Victoria Centre in Milton Street.
The building is Grade II listed and would be divided into two, with the chicken shop taking up the larger section of the building.
The use of the other remaining unit has not yet been determined.
The new restaurant would provide up to 50 covers inside with a further 12 available outside, but this is likely to change due to the social distancing guidelines.
Around 45 jobs are expected to be created by the restaurant.
Nottingham commuters have welcomed the building being brought back into use, but some did argue the area had enough takeaways.
A late-night refreshment licence for the premises was granted by Nottingham City Council last September to allow daily opening times between 8am and 4am.
The licence restricts access to the premises after 11pm to younger people unless accompanied by people aged over 21.
It also requires there to be door supervisors on Friday and Saturday after 11pm.
Nottinghamshire Live has contacted the KFC head office for more information, but no one was available for comment.
But one of the city restaurants told Nottinghamshire Live that it has plans to open this Friday.
