'Huge mistake!' - Rangers fans speak out after Billy Gilmour stars for Chelsea vs Liverpool

He was one of the stars of the show for Chelsea on Tuesday night against Liverpool - and Billy Gilmour's display for the Blues has got Rangers fans talking.

The 18-year-old Glaswegian midfielder was named the man of the match after impressing against the Reds, with Gilmour earning plenty of praise from fans and pundits alike after helping Frank Lampard's men progress to the quarter finals of the FA Cup, where they will take on Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

Lampard was also full of praise for the teenager , who was recently promoted to the first team squad on a permanent basis, having made his debut for Chelsea earlier this season.

But while he has attracted plenty of attention from Chelsea fans and rival supporters for his performance against the Premier League leaders, it has left some Rangers fans bemoaning the fact that he left the Scottish club to join the Blues.

Frank Lampard on Billy Gilmour: He is small in stature he is huge in personality and talent.

Gilmour started out at Rangers, developing his career as part of the Rangers Academy, before being fast-tracked towards the first team squad under different managers, including Mark Warburton, Graeme Murty and Pedro Caixinha.

However, he never made a first team appearance for the Gers and in May 2017, it was announced that an agreement had been reached with Chelsea for Gilmour to join the Blues for a reported fee of £500,000.

And now, with Gilmour progressing well at Chelsea, Rangers fans have been left regretting the decision for him to leave.

Here's what some Rangers fans have been saying on social media.

Since joining Chelsea in 2017 following his 16th birthday, Gilmour has impressed for the Blues' U18 squad and featured in the UEFA Youth League.

He was involved with the first team in pre-season under Frank Lampard, and made his Premier League debut against Sheffield United in August, coming on as a substitute with the score at 2-2.

Gilmour has now made six appearances in all competitions for Chelsea this season, with this being his second game in the FA Cup.
