Huge military aircraft seen in the skies before landing at Bristol Airport

Plane spotters have certainly been getting their fill of unusual aircraft in the skies over Bristol during lockdown.

Necks were craned to the sky last night after many reported seeing a huge military style aircraft up around Bristol.

The plane was actually an A400M Atlas, based at RAF Brize Norton, which was in the Bristol area yesterday for essential military training.

The flights are nothing to do with the RAF’s work in the fight against coronavirus.

In a tweet yesterday RAF Brize Norton said: “This evening, our A400M Atlas aircraft will be operating in the vicinity of Bristol, whilst engaged in essential training.

"These are necessary, routine, flights and not connected with RAF support to the UK's fight against Coronavirus.

Bristol Airport also put out a tweet earlier today explaining the arrival of the giant aircraft.

In its tweet the airport said: “We were delighted to welcome this unusual visitor for essential military training."
