KAMIYAMA, Tokushima -- A hedge maze in Kamiyama, Tokushima Prefecture, is gaining popularity among both adults and children alike.

The maze at Kamiyama Forest Park "IL ROSA no Mori" is about 850 meters long, stands about 2 meters high and is comprised of about 3,000 camellia trees. There are two checkpoints visitors must pass through to reach the maze's end.

Located at about 400 meters above sea level on a nearby mountain, the temperature within the maze is lower than it is at the mountain's foot.

"I can let my children play here without worrying about coronavirus infection risks, because crowded situations can be avoided out in nature," said an office worker visiting with his family from Aizumi in the prefecture.

Admission is free and the maze is open all year round. In winter, red and white camellia flowers bloom, creating an atmosphere unique from the other seasons.
