A huge manufacturing plant could be built at Royal Portbury Dock in North Somerset if plans are approved.
Industrial group Etex Building Performance has bought up a redundant coal site and submitted proposals to build a £140million plant, creating 50 local jobs. It will be an advanced plasterboard manufacturing facility.
The company, which already has one plant in Bristol and another at Ferrybridge in Yorkshire, says it is working with North Somerset Council to develop plans for the new facility.
If the proposals are approved by the local authority, the business work will start on the plant in 2022.
Neil Ash, head of Etex building performance for North West Europe, told Business Live: “In line with North Somerset Council’s vision to boost regional growth, our investment will see the transformation of a redundant coal site into a brand new manufacturing plant, creating jobs and supporting the local Bristol economy.”
The investment is Etex’s largest single capital investment to date.
Neil added: “Over the past 30 years Etex has been at the forefront of dry construction innovation in the UK, developing more modern, efficient ways of building.
“Investing in this added capacity also strengthens our ability to develop superior building material systems for our UK customers, helping to create high-performing buildings that meet the needs of the people who use them.”
Etex already employs 330 people in the Bristol region and has been involved in projects including Southmead Hospital in Bristol.
