The best friend of tragic Barry Dixon has paid an emotional tribute to his pal.
Barry (22) died following an incident at Wallace Crescent in Perth on Tuesday.
Twenty-one-year-old Robbie Smullen was due to appear in court yesterday after the PA went to press, charged with Barry’s murder.
Danny Black (21) first met Barry when the pair were in primary one at Goodlyburn Primary.
They later bonded further when they moved to Carnoustie and remained friends ever since.
Speaking to the PA, Danny, who now stays in Tulloch, said: “Barry was the kind of guy who would give you his last penny.
“He was a bit crazy, but in a good way. He was always up for a laugh.
“He loved motorcars and engines, anything with speed in it.
“He was a mechanic while we were in Carnoustie and he just loved everything about that. He loved to fix things.
“Barry helped me out of a lot of situations. He always had my back.”
Speaking about how he felt when he heard news of Barry’s death, Danny said: “It was just disbelief. I just did not think it was true.
“I spoke to him the day before he died, we were talking about going to [music festival] Creamfields in August.”
Barry’s family also paid tribute to him this week in a statement released through the police.
They said: “Barry, a loving grandson, son, brother and nephew, has been taken from us so young and we are devastated. He loved spending time with his family and his friends. He was kind hearted and generous and will be missed greatly by all of us.”
Inquiries are continuing into Barry’s death.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Officers would still like to hear from anyone who was in the area of Wallace Court in Perth in the early hours of Tuesday, June 4, or who had any contact with Barry from Monday, June 3 onwards, to call 101, quoting reference 0259 of June 4.”
