Huge land, sea and air search launched after young woman goes missing at Cliffs of Moher

A multi-agency search operation is currently under way for a woman reported missing at the Cliffs of Moher.

The alarm was raised on Wednesday night following reports that a woman, understood to be in her 20s, had gone missing at the Co Clare landmark.

A land, sea and air operation to locate the woman has since been launched, with the Rescue 115 helicopter conducting initial searches on Wednesday night.

The operation resumed on Thursday morning, with the Coast Guard leading the search.

Gardai, Aran Islands RNLI, and Clare Civil Defence have also responded to the incident.

The Garda Water Unit, Aran Islands RNLI all-weather lifeboat and Clare Civil Defence’s drone team have all been deployed, as the Clare Herald reports.

A garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: "Gardaí are assisting in an ongoing search operation for a person reported missing at the Cliffs of Moher since yesterday evening, Wednesday 3rd November. The Coast Guard have the lead in this matter.

It comes after the local Doolin Coast Guard was stood down this week.

Six volunteers at the unit all resigned on Monday, with the remaining five members not permitted to respond to any emergencies in the future as a result.

The Irish Coast Guard confirmed that the unit had been stood down but added that the Aran Islands Coast Guard, which is managed by the Doolin Unit, will remain operational.
