Huge land and river search launched for man reported missing from hospital in Carmarthen

A large-scale search involving rescue boats, a police helicopter and police dogs has taken place for a man who went missing from a Carmarthen hospital.

Police officers, fire crews, paramedics and search and rescue boats were all asked to assist in the search, which started at around 6.50pm on Monday, June 8.

Crews from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service were seen parked at The Quay in Carmarthen, an area in the town centre next to the River Towy, while other emergency vehicles from Dyfed-Powys Police and the Welsh Ambulance Service were also seen parked in the Abergwili and Llangunnor areas.

The Ferryside Lifeboat was also tasked and was in the River Towy shortly after 9.10pm.

All were involved in the search for a missing man, who was found after a three-and-a-half hour search.

It is understood that he had been reported missing from nearby Glangwili Hospital, although Hywel Dda University Health Board has not confirmed that information.

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-powys Police said: “We received a call reporting a missing man at 6.50pm on Monday, June 8.

“Officers were deployed, and a search was carried out in Carmarthen which involved response teams, the dog unit, NPAS helicopter, Coastguard and Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service.”

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: "We were called to Abergwili Road in Carmarthen to assist colleagues in the police and fire services at approximately 8.25pm last night, Monday 8 June.

"We attended scene with one rapid response vehicle and one emergency ambulance. We were stood down soon after.”

Police confirmed that the man was found safe, on land, in the Capel Dewi area at around 10.15pm.
