Huge knife dropped by thug in police chase at train station

A huge knife was dropped by a thug during a police chase around a train station.

The 12-inch knife was seized by officers after a chase on foot around Wigan North Western train station and Wigan bus station.

A gang of four men were spotted acting 'suspiciously' by police officers in the area on Monday.

When officers approached the group, one of the men made off from the scene - dropping a 'very large blade' as he ran.

Police say they are now making enquiries and 'will be paying the man a visit very soon'.

In a Facebook post, officers from Greater Manchester Police's Wigan West team said: "Today officers from the transport unit teamed up with officers from the British Transport Police.

"Officers were conducting plain clothes patrols around the Wigan North Western train station and Wigan bus station.

"When they came across 4x males who were acting suspiciously, 1x of the males decided he didn't want to speak to us and decided to give it legs.

"Whilst running away the male dropped a very large knife.

"Enquiries are ongoing and we will be paying you a visit very soon."
