Huge jobs fair to take place in Bristol with employers including NHS and Avon Fire and Rescue

A huge jobs and apprenticeships fair is taking place in Bristol next month.

The South Bristol Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair 2020 on Thursday February 27 will bring together employers and training providers with job-seekers and school leavers.

The free event, which is being held at the South Bristol Skills Academy in Hengrove, is being organised by Bristol South MP Karin Smyth; City of Bristol College; Bristol City Council; and the Department for Work and Pensions.

Some of the city’s biggest employers, including the NHS, Avon Fire and Rescue Service and Bristol Port Company, will be taking part.

There will also be representatives from organisations supporting people into employment, such as the National Careers Service.

“I’m delighted to be bringing you another South Bristol Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair,” said Karin.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to meet the training providers, employers and all those people who are involved in supporting apprenticeships.”

Mayor of Bristol Marvin Rees said: “This is a great opportunity for people seeking a route into work, and are keen to develop their skills and knowledge on the job.

“I am delighted that there are so many apprenticeship opportunities on offer across Bristol and that employers are committing to developing our city’s talent.”

The fair is for school pupils, parents and grandparents, and older people looking to re-enter the workplace or re-train.

Burges Salmon apprentice Gareth Parfitt was at the 2019 fair talking to people about his experiences.

“I found the university route to be really expensive and I’d had enough of reading from a textbook day in, day out,” he said.

“I wanted something that was a lot more practical so decided that an apprenticeship was way better for me.

“If I pass all my exams, I should come out as a qualified solicitor without the debt of university.”

The South Bristol Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair will take place from 11am to 3pm.
