Huge house fire in Airdrie as emergency crews remain at scene

A huge house fire in Airdrie saw nearby homes evacuated in the early hours of this morning.

Firefighters, police and paramedics raced to the blaze in Ewart Drive at around 3:05am.

Emergency services are still in attendance at the scene and enquiries are continuing.

The occupants of eight nearby properties were evacuated at the time as a precaution, however, four have since been allowed to return. The others remain with family and friends.

It is not known at this stage whether anyone has been injured.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Police and emergency services were called to a report of a fire within a detached house in Ewart Drive, Airdrie. Emergency services remain at the scene and enquiries are continuing."
