Huge group of '50' students gather in Meadows for football match with no social distancing

Edinburgh locals have spoken of their shock this afternoon as 'around 50' students gathered in a huge group in The Meadows - without any social distancing.

The large group was watching a football match take place in the public park involving university students wearing two different strips for the organised match.

An individual who sent the images to Edinburgh Live said: "I'm surprised that so many students would gather together so closely and so blatantly.

"Surely they should be being more cautious if they are hoping to go home for Christmas and keep their families safe from coronavirus.

"There were about 50 of them crowded around with no efforts to social distance, all hugging one another. I was really shocked."

Edinburgh is currently in Level 3 of Scotland's coronavirus restrictions, with guidance from the Scottish Government outlining that under these rules you can only meet a maximum number of six people from two other households outdoors.
