Huge 'Glasgow' mural appears on side of building 6,000km away from River Clyde

Glasgow's award-winning City Centre Mural Trail has been a source of pride for residents since it was created back in 2016, brightening up neglected spaces and bare walls in the city and influencing cultural activities, as well as boosting to tourism to boot.

And now it seems like other places across the globe have taken a leaf out Glasgow's book. And not just any place...

Glasgow's Kentucky namesake, situated around 6,000 kilometres from the River Clyde, is attempting to brighten up and reinvigorate their own downtown area thanks to the appearance of a huge 'Glasgow' mural which has appeared on the side of a building.

According to WBKO, the bright and colourful mural - the work of Louisville art collective ‘Often Seen, Rarely Spoken' - is the first in a series of murals showcasing the work of local artists that will hopefully be appearing on buildings across the small city.

Located around 100 miles from Louisville on the Ohio river and home to around 15,000 people, the mural trail won't be the only thing that connects us to the city - which US senator William Logan named after the birthplace of his father.

Back in 2017, we reported how Glasgow in Kentucky appeared on our radar after Limmy said he was thinking of moving there.

And we subsequently found that like here, locals in our 'sister' town love their live music - with groups of banjo-pickers are a regular site in the town’s Beaver Trail park and at the local Barrens (as opposed to Barras) market.

While like us, the small city is also known for producing its share of famous folk, such as Willa Brown, the first black woman to run for Congress and first black woman in the USA to receive a commercial pilot’s license, and Ben Wells, of rock band Black Stone Cherry.
