Huge fundraiser launched to give terminally-ill woman dream holiday

A online fundraiser has been launched to send a terminally-ill woman on the holiday of her dreams.

Faith Mitchell, 32, from Macclesfield, Cheshire, is suffering from stage four leiomyosarcoma - a cancer that affects muscle tissue and usually gives a life expectancy of up to two years.

She and her partner Ashley Rigby, 29, were hoping to go on a special holiday for themselves but could not afford the £3,000 insurance for Faith, Cheshire Live reports .

But her kindhearted friend Paige Clare set up a GoFundMe appeal to allow Faith go on a trip she had "never dreamed of in a million years".

Within two weeks almost £7,000 of the £10,000 target has been reached.

Faith said: “I can’t believe it, it came from a random conversation where I was talking about insurance. I’m in shock and when I look at the page I want to cry.

”People are so kind and have been amazing. I want to say thank you to everyone who has helped and especially to Paige.

”Before my diagnosis I was a complete worrier and couldn’t cope with the littlest thing. But my whole outlook has changed and I can’t believe how positive I am.”

Faith hopes to go for a beach holiday in Mexico or the Caribbean - the sort of place ‘she had never dreamed in a million years’ she would be able to visit.

She was originally diagnosed in June 2018 and after having a 17cm tumour removed from her abdomen was initially cancer free.

But the cancer returned in February and had spread to her liver, kidney and pelvis.

Of those with Faith’s diagnosis just under 50 per cent live a year, a similar proportion live for two and a small percentage live for five.

Paige has also been left gobsmacked by the kind response to the fundraiser.

She said: “Faith is a wonderful person who lights up a room so when I heard about this it was heartbreaking.

”I have been blown away by the response and couldn’t be more grateful. It restores your faith in humanity."

Other friends of Faith - Ella Blinkhorn, Michael Mason and Sam Maguire - have also set up fundraisers.

Anyone who donates will be entered into a prize raffle.
