Police are probing a fire which ripped through a building site in Glasgow 's east end.

Terrified residents called emergency services as flames licked the roof of the construction site on Landressy Place, in Bridgeton, at 10pm on Monday night.

Locals watched from their windows as fire fighters tackled the flames.

A police probe is now underway.

One resident captured the thick smoke, billowing from the orange glow of flames coming from the inferno just one street away.

The video shows burning embers falling from the sky and landing on the ground like snow.

She told the Daily Record: "I got up to make a coffee when I was alerted by a flickering glow.

"I couldn't believe how huge the fire seemed to be already.

"I shouted on my husband to call 999 while I grabbed my phone from the other room.

"Initially we were extremely panicked, I was really shaken, I thought it was the occupied building right opposite us that had ignited.

"We were discussing whether we should go and knock doors but it seemed like emergency services had arrived fairly quickly and we didn't want to get in the way.

"It became obvious it was the residences under construction that were ablaze and so we were calmed by the likelihood of it being empty."

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Enquiries are ongoing into a wilful fireraising at a building site in Landressy Place, Bridgeton that took place around 9.45pm on Monday, 31 August.

"Anyone with information that may assist the ongoing investigation should contact Shettleston CID through 101 quoting reference number 3729 of 31 August, 2020."
