Huge fire rips through Blackpool Central Pier

A huge fire broke out on Blackpool Central Pier overnight.

10 fire engines and 50 firefighters rushed to the scene in the early hours of Friday morning.

Pictures show the pier engulfed in flames at the height of the blaze.

The fire has thankfully now been put out, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said.

Incident commander Mark Winder said in a video tweeted by the service that crews were called just after 3am.

He said: "The fire involved a workshop and a ride that are approximately halfway along the central pier.

"Fortunately early firefighter action has extinguished the fire to the extent there is no visible flame."

An investigation was being conducted into the fire's cause, he added.

He advised some nearby roads are currently closed and will remain so "for one to two hours".

Central Pier is one of the s easide resort's three piers with North and South Pier also in existence.

It is the nearest pier to the iconic Blackpool Tower.
