Huge fire involving hazardous substances breaks out near Yoker train station

A huge fire involving hazardous substances has broken out close to Yoker train station near Glasgow.

Dramatic pictures on social media show thick smoke billowing out from a building with huge flames visible on Hamilton Street.

Emergency services, including specialist units, rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the blaze at 5.44pm on Wednesday.

The inferno is thought to started in the building of manufacturing firm Rumbol Products Ltd.

There were no reports of any injuries.

One person wrote on Twitter: "Crazy big fire by Yoker train station just now, looked like a factory, hope no one caught up in it!"

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “We were called to a building fire at 5.44pm on Wednesday, October 23 at Hamilton Street, Clydebank.

"Operations control mobilised a number of appliances including a specialist unit due to the potential of the fire involving hazardous substances.

"Crews are still in attendance and are currently working to make the area safe.”
