Huge fire in Yatton believed to be 'arson attack'

Fire crews were called to a large fire at a derelict building this morning (November 3).

Crews from Yatton, Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare were called at just after 1am to the blaze in the two storey building at Station Road, just off the High Street in Yatton.

It took crews four hours, using three jets and a turntable ladder to extinguish the blaze, which broke our in a former building merchants yard.

Firefighters returned to the scene this morning using thermal imaging equipment to check for hotspots.

And the fire service has now confirmed it is believed the blaze was started deliberately.

A spokesman for Avon Fire and Rescue said: “Crews from Yatton, Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare were called to a fire in a two storey derelict building, Station Road, off of Yatton High Street.

“On arrival firefighters used three 45mm jets and a turntable ladder to extinguish the fire.

“The cause of the fire is thought to be deliberate ignition.”
