A team of around 40 firefighters tackled a large blaze in a derelict building in Glasgow this morning.
Large flames could be seen from the building on High Street with smoke billowing into the sky when the alarm was raised around 1.27am on May 4.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service say they were met with a “well-developed fire” and nine fire appliances, including two height appliances, were still at the scene at 7am.
There were no reports of any injuries.
Roads in the area, including parts of High Street, Duke Street and West George Street, were closed while emergency services dealt with the incident.
The fire appears to have taken hold at the building containing the historic Old College Bar, although the extent of the damage is not yet known.
Our sister title Glasgow Live reported in February how the bar would be knocked down along with a number of other unlisted buildings at the junction of High Street and George Street to make way for 239 build-to-rent flats with rooftop terraces.
A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue said: "On May 4, 2021, we were called to a report of a fire within a derelict building on fire on High Street.
"We immediately dispatched four appliances to the scene.
"Firefighters were met with a well-developed fire and requested further resources to bring it under control.
"Seven appliances and two high-level appliances are currently in attendance and the incident is ongoing".
