Huge fire erupts in Fife housing estate after tumble dryer explodes

A huge fire erupted last night at Dunnikier Estate in Kirkcaldy caused by an 'exploding' tumble dryer.

Fife Jammer Locations alerted locals by sharing a video a Fife shed immersed in orange flames.

A Kirkcaldy woman is now warning locals about the dangers of the Hotpoint appliance after claiming the appliance started the dreadful fire at her shed.

She wrote: "It was my shed. All shaken but thankfully got out on time.

"Our tumble dryer exploded - I beg anyone with a Hotpoint tumble dryer not to use it.

"Our was fixed on the last recall. Just thankful we never kept it in the house"

Fife Jammer locations also confirmed to Edinburgh Live that from what they understand the fire was caused by a tumble dryer.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 11.18pm on Monday, June 29 to reports of a garage on fire in Kirkcaldy.

"Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the town's Duddingston Drive, where firefighters extinguished the fire and worked to make the area safe.

"Crews thereafter left the scene.

"There were no casualties."

A Whirlpool spokesperson said:“Our thoughts are with the residents affected by the fire, and we are investigating the situation.

"One of our senior engineers will visit the property as we seek to understand what happened as a matter of urgency.”
