Huge fire breaks out at Scots Co-op car park as cops launch probe

Police have launched a probe after a huge blaze broke out in a car park near a Scots supermarket.

Emergency services scrambled to the scene after the inferno started near the Co-op on Sinclair Street in Helensburgh at around 4.30pm on Wednesday, April 28.

Fire crews sent two engines to extinguish the flames, which were sparked within an electrical sub-station.

Dark smoke was seen billowing across the sky above nearby buildings, with some residents reporting power outages.

It's not believed there were any casualties as a result of the blaze.

Officers attended and this morning they told the Record that their enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of how the fire started.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 4.30pm on Wednesday April 28, police were made aware of a fire in Sinclair Street.

"Emergency services attended and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of how the fire started."

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have been approached for a comment.

“Operations Control mobilised two appliances and firefighters extinguished a fire within an electrical sub-station in a car park.

“Crews left after ensuring the area was made safe and there were no reported casualties.”
