Huge fire breaks out at Fife industrial estate after 'number of explosions'

A fire has broken out an industrial estate in Fife after reports of several explosions.

Fire crews scrambled to the Woodend Industrial Estate in Cowdenbeath just before 8am this morning.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were assisted by officers from Police Scotland as worried locals took to social media.

Thick black smoke could be seen billowing across the town as crews attempted to calm the huge blaze.

Seven appliances were sent to the scene to deal with the blaze.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We are currently tackling a fire at a business premises in Woodend Industrial Estate, Cowdenbeath.

“Operations Control mobilised seven fire appliances to the scene after the alarm was raised at 7.59am.”

Many residents said they heard a number explosions with one saying her house shook.

Kelly Hughes said on Facebook: "The first explosion shook my house. Hope everyone is ok. It looks bad"

Lorna Park wrote: "It’s from Woodend industrial estate I live at the back of it and the whole house shook there is still explosions going off."
