Huge fire at barn is being treated as arson

A large fire that broke out in a barn is being treated as arson.

Ten fire crews tackled the blaze which happened at around 6am on Sunday, September 1 at No Man's Lane, Dale Abbey, just west of Sandiacre.

Plumes of smoke were seen for miles around the area, and there was extensive damage left behind.

There were no injuries reported and all livestock were safely removed from the barns.

A spokesman for Derbyshire Constabulary said: "The fire in No Man's Lane, Dale Abbey is being treated as arson.

"A currently unknown person set fire to hay in a barn and it spread to further barns causing extensive damage.

"Anyone in the area who has information about the incident should contact Derbyshire Constabulary quoting reference number 19*472290."

A spokesman for Derbyshire Fire and rescue Service also said: "The most likely cause of the fire was determined as deliberate ignition."

The site of the barn fire is shared by The Cowshed Tearoom.

Co-owners of The Cowshed Tearoom, Fiona and Nicky Sissons said: "The Cowshed Tearoom is still open for business as per normal hours."
