A huge rock fell from a mountainside and blocked a section of Highway 108 in Khun Yuam district of the northern province of Mae Hong Son on Monday morning.

The landslide occurred about 9.20am near kilometre marker 301 on the road between Ban Huai Pong in Muang district and Ban Mae Surin in Khun Yuam. No injuries were reported.

Work crews from the Mae Hong Son Rural Road Department were sent to clear the road, but the fallen rock was extremely large and they were unable to move it. Local contractors were asked to provide heavy machinery to assist with the task.

Traffic congestion was reported at the scene. A single lane had been reopened and traffic started to move slowly around the mini-mountain of rock and earth about 11am, local media reported.
