Huge Eurovision takeover coming to Liverpool's Concert Square

Concert Square will transform to give Eurovison Song Contest fans an unforgettable experience.

Liverpool's most prolific party area is set for a Eurovision makeover to celebrate the contest hitting the city. May will see thousands of fans from across Europe head to Liverpool to attend one of the live shows, or live it up in the designated fan zones.

The EuroVillage, the contest's official fan zone which broadcasts the event to an outdoor audience, will take place on Liverpool's Pier Head but plenty of other areas in the city centre will get in on the action.

Pub Invest Group, the company behind the majority of Concert Square's nightclubs and bars, told the Liverpool ECHO their plans to completely overhaul the area in order to ring in the competition in style. Surrounding the vicinity will be street performers, tribute acts and hosts, with names yet to be confirmed.

Soho will broadcast the event but they hope to erect a large screen for the entire square to enjoy. This will coincide with another of their venues, Fusion, acting as the Euro Fans Club and delivering a full week of themed events.

The festivities will kick off on May 8 with an opening night extravaganza along with viewing parties for the semi-finals and live performances every night. Famous names already confirmed include Katrina from the contest's 1997 winner, Katrina and the Waves, James Newman, Rasmussen and Kate Ryan.

All that plus two rooms of Eurocentric partying until 6am every night of the week. You can see their full line-up and buy tickets here. Their sister venues dotted across the city will host events of their own with drinking games and giveaways at La'go, and Zanzibar expecting a Sh*t Indie takeover. Cheers and Revolver have wrangled the expertise of several drag hosts who will present quizzes, tribute acts and "Abba-esque makeup stations" to guests throughout the night.
