Huge emergency services team rescues man from river near Bristol Temple Meads

A large team of emergency services helped rescue a man from the River Avon near Bristol Temple Meads train station.

One witness said there were a total of 15 fire engines, ambulances and police cars at the concern for welfare incident at around 7pm tonight (January 30).

Police closed York Road between Temple Gate and Whitehouse Street, before the route was reopened at 7.45pm, following the rescue.

An Avon Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We were called by police.

"We rescued one male casualty from the water using throw lines from the river bank and handed him to paramedics.

"It was two fire crews from Bedminster and two from Temple."

A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service said: "We were called on Thursday at 6.54pm about an incident on York Road, Bedminster.

"The caller reported to us that someone was in the river. We sent a land ambulance crew and two additional paramedics to attend the incident.

"Our crews treated a male patient and transported him to hospital for further care."
