Huge emergency services presence as man spotted on roof of house

Emergency services descended on a residential street this afternoon a man climbed on to the roof of a house.

Photos from the scene on Sunday afternoon show multiple paramedic response units, police cars and fire engines parked on Bardsay Road, Walton.

The man, who is in his 20s, was pictured on the roof of one of houses on Bardsay Road as police and emergency response units tried to talk him down.

Police were called to the scene at 2.15pm by concerned residents after the man climbed onto the roof.

Officers cordoned off the street and put a containment around one house on Bardsay Road during the incident.

The ECHO understands that nobody has been reported injured and police said that nobody else was in the house.

Police later confirmed that the man was detained under the Mental Health Act (1983) and taken to hospital.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We can confirm officers are in attendance at a house in Everton following a report of concern for the safety of a man this afternoon (Sunday 26 July 2020).

"Officers were called to Bardsay Road at 2.15pm, following a report for the safety of a man in his 20s who had climbed onto the roof of a property.

"A containment has been put on the house as a precaution while officers engage with the man, with a road closure in place on Bardsay Road.

"There is not believed to be anyone else in the premises and there are no reports anyone has been injured.

"We would like to thank residents for their patients while police attend the incident."
