Huge emergency services presence after man climbs onto roof of building

A man was taken to hospital after climbing onto the roof of a building in Trafford.

Emergency services were scrambled to the Stretford Public Hall this morning after the man scaled the building. Pictures taken at the scene showed him sitting of top of a ledge above a window.

Photos also showed several police vehicles, fire engines and ambulances stationed on Chester Road next to the building. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed officers were called to the scene to reports of concern for the welfare of a man.

They said the man got down safely after a short time. He was then taken to hospital by paramedics.

Negotiators were due to be sent to the scene but were cancelled when the man got down, the spokesperson added.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "Just before 8am this morning (Wednesday 30th November), two fire engines from Stretford and Sale fire station, along with Technical Response Unit from Leigh were called to reports of a man on the roof of a building on Chester Road, Stretford.

"The crews arrived quickly at scene. However, the man left the roof by himself via the staircase inside the building, with no need of rescue. The man was left in the care of colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and Northwest Ambulance Service.

"Firefighters were attendance for around an hour."
