Huge emergency response near beauty spot after police called to concern for welfare of man

A huge emergency response was prompted at a beauty spot in Rochdale after police were called following concerns for the welfare of a man.

Specialist officers were deployed to an area near Hollingworth Lake in Littleborough at around 7.45pm last night (Tuesday 2 May) following the call.

A member of the public had rang the force saying they were concerned for the welfare of a man between Tunshill Lane and Rakewood Road - which runs parallel to the lake.

Officers located a man and brought him to safety. No arrests have been made and he is said to have received support from specialist services. It's not believed the man had entered the water, but was found on some steps nearby.

Local residents described seeing a major response on Tuesday evening, as they described seeing multiple emergency vehicles descend on the area surrounding the lake.

One woman said she saw five police cars, a tactical aid unit, and a rapid response ambulance at the scene.

In a statement, GMP said: "At around 7.45pm on Tuesday 2 May 2023 officers were called to a concern for welfare of a man between Tunshill Lane and Rakewood Road in Milnrow, Rochdale.

"Specialist officers attended the scene and located the man before bringing him to safety. No arrests have been made and the male is being supported by specialist services."
