Huge emergency response after man's body seen in Liverpool dock

The discovery of a man's body in a Liverpool dock sparked a huge emergency response this morning.

Police and ambulance crews were at the scene and cordoned off an area close to the entrance to the Royal Albert Dock.

They were called at around 7.35am to a report that the body of a man had been seen in the water.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "Officers, Coastguard and North West Ambulance Service attended and the man was removed from the water.

"He was taken to hospital by ambulance and sadly pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a post mortem will be conducted to establish the cause of death.

"Enquiries are ongoing to formally identify the man and inform his next of kin."
