Huge emergency response after man falls 15 feet down embankment

Emergency services rushed to Wigan after a man fell 15 feet down an embankment.

Police, ambulances and firefighters were called to the scene in Hindley Mill Lane, Hindley, at around 1.20pm on Sunday afternoon.

Witnesses at the scene have said the road was taped off by police and cars were turned around as the officers dealt with the incident in woodland near to Borsdane Brook.

Firefighters and paramedics used specialist rescue equipment to carry the man up the embankment.

The man is now in the care of paramedics.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “At around 1.20pm this afternoon, three fire engines from Hindley and Wigan fire stations were called to assist colleagues from North West Ambulance Service at an incident on Hindley Mill Lane, Hindley, involving a man who had fallen around 15 feet down an embankment.

“Firefighters were quickly on the scene and used rescue equipment to carry the man up the embankment and into the care of paramedics.

“Crews were in attendance for just under two hours.”

The man is understood to have sustained minor injuries.
