Huge Edinburgh queues spotted as fans descend into frenzy for Record Store Day

Huge queues have been spotted at record stores around Edinburgh today for National Record Store Day.

The city is filled with a handful of popular record stores, some of which will be selling rare copies throughout the day, and fans have been sent into a frenzy, with some queueing outside before doors opened at 8am this morning.

Footage has emerged on social media of fans waiting outside both Assai Records, on Grindlay Street, and the new Thorne Records, which has recently opened in Bruntsfield.

Being the biggest day of the year for vinyl and record fans, over 260 independent stores across the UK are participating in the event to celebrate their unique culture.

Special vinyl releases are made exclusively for today, April 23, as many shops and cities host artist performances and events to mark the occasion. Thousands of other stores celebrate the day around the globe, in what's becoming one of the biggest annual events on the music calendar.

This morning, a video uploaded on TikTok by Assai Records, captured the huge queues of music fans that had gathered outside their busy store.

The video was captioned: "The queue for RSD 2022 outside the shop today! Its been a crazy morning for vinyl lovers in Edinburgh, we're loving it. Will you be coming in today?"

The video shows dozens of people queuing the length of Grindlay Street and even extending to round the corner onto the next street, as well as a look inside the store that is packed with shoppers.

Thorne Records, at Bruntsfield, also shared an image on social media of customers waiting for the store to open. (Thorne Records/Instagram)

Elsewhere, the bright yellow Thorne Records store in Bruntsfield posted a picture of their queue on Instagram, although another image captured by a passer-by showed many more people waiting round the block for them to open.

Thorne Records opened at 8am this morning and are open until 8pm, with people getting up at the crack of dawn to reserve their space in the line whilst stock lasts.
