Huge Eden Project North expected to finally be approved this week

A huge new botanical gardens in the north west is expected to get the green light this week. The £100million Eden North project is set to completely transform the town of Morcambe with more than 1,000 jobs expected to be created.

The plans have taken nearly five years to get to this stage with official approval expected this week, LancsLive reports. It is expected to attracted over 740,000 tourists to the area each year.

Morecambe MP David Morris hailed the news, saying: "After four prime ministers, five Chancellors and three parliaments all the hard work has finally paid off. This will be a game changer for the town and have economic benefit for the wider north West region."

Up to £50million of the money used for the project is to come from 'levelling up' funding enabling the plans to move to this next phase. The rest of the money will have to come from private investors and donations, according to The Mirror.

Eden Project North (Grimshaw Architects)

The Eden Project in Cornwall first opened in 2000 and just two years later was used as the set for the James Bond movie Die Another Day. Artists' impressions have revealed that Eden Project North will fit with the seaside theme.

It will include five pavilions shaped to look like mussels, each one hosting a different environment for visitors to explore. The new location is set offers picturesque views of the landscape while visitors could make their way down a large path right to the water's edge.
