Huge delays on the M50 this evening as crash causes traffic to come to a standstill

There are huge delays on the M50 in Dublin this evening as an earlier crash caused traffic to come to a standstill.

The collision at Junction 5 Finglas, heading southbound, has since been cleared but is causing delays of up to 40 minutes.

Gardai issued an alert regarding the heavy traffic to motorists, advising drivers to avoid the area and take alternative routes.

The official Garda Traffic Twitter account wrote: "Traffic is at a standstill at Junction 5 (Finglas) on the M50 Southbound due to a collision. The road has been cleared however traffic continues to build. Junction 4 (Ballymun) is also slow-moving. Motorists are advised to take alternative routes where possible."

According to LiveDrive, there are delays in both directions, on the M50. In an update on Twitter, they wrote: "All lanes are now open on the M50 southbound, as the collision after J5 (Finglas) has been cleared.

"Southbound delays of 40 minutes remain from J3 (M1/R139). Northbound 20 minutes from J11 (Tallaght)."

Motorists have also been warned of a second collision on the M50 southbound at J14 Sandyford on Tuesday evening. The incident is reported to have occurred on the merging lane with delays building.
