Huge crowds turn out to see Gateshead's dazzling Christmas lights switch-on

Huge crowds packed into Gateshead's Trinity Square to see the Christmas lights get switched-on.

Crowds were kept entertained with performances by singers and dancers as they waited for the switch to be flicked on the illuminations in the town centre on Thursday, November 18.

Families were delighted to see the return of the event, which marks the countdown to Christmas, following its cancellation last year because of the pandemic.

The event was hosted by Mrs Claus and Jingle the Elf, with The Grinch also making an appearance.

Singer Janie MacKenzie, who is described as the number one tribute show to Kylie Minogue, performed as 'Christmas Kylie' as she entertained the excited crowds.

Other names on the bill included stand-up favourite Ricky K, who made his name on Britain's Got Talent, and teenager Abby Camsell, who won Trinity Square's own talent competition, Trinity's Got Talent.
