Huge crowds of mourners gather for slain Supreme Leader Khamenei’s funeral procession

  • Hundreds of thousands of mourners have begun a procession through Tehran for the funeral of the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei .
  • His flag-draped coffin, along with those of family members killed in a 28 February airstrike, is being carried on a truck.
  • Iranian authorities have shut down streets, airspace, and daily life for the mourning period, which started on Saturday and will conclude on Thursday with the burial in Mashhad.
  • The new supreme leader of Iran did not attend his father's funeral, although three of his other sons were present.
  • Mourners have issued threats of revenge, displaying signs calling for the killing of US president Donald Trump and Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with US federal agencies tracking such threats since the 2020 killing of Gen Qassem Soleimani.
