Huge crocodile snatches pet dog in front of horrified owner and eats it alive

A distraught dog owner filmed the heartbreaking moment his beloved pet was eaten whole by a crocodile while it paddled.

The owner can be heard yelling in fear, before desperately shouting for his dog Ben to get out of the river.

Ben had been paddling with two other dogs in Watson River in Queensland, Australia, when the terrifying incident happened. The other two made it to safety.

The video is now being used as a warning for dog owners about walking letting their pets play in water at high tide.

The footage shows the three dogs swimming in the still water before the giant crocodile suddenly lunged out of water, snatching Ben whole in its jaws and disappearing under the surface again in a matter of seconds.

The owner can be heard desperately shouting "Ben! Get out!" as the two other dogs jumped and barked, frantically getting out of the water.

Although the two other dogs made it back to dry land, the only sign of Ben and the saltwater crocodile are ripples of water at the point they disappeared.

The devastated owner's voice broke as he cried "Oh no! Benny!" as the realisation of what happened to his beloved pet dawned on him.

The video has been shared by the Aurukun Indigenous Knowledge Centre with a warning to people out walking their pets by rivers.

The centre's coordinator, Noel Waterman, told Cairns Post that dog owners should be aware of the dangers of letting pets play in water at high tide.

He said: "Crocs seem to be more camouflaged at this time."
