‘He needs to start' - Arsenal fans love what Eddie Nketiah has done to win over Mikel Arteta

Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah is set to stay at the club for the rest of the season.

The 20-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan at Leeds United, but the Gunners terminated the deal after a lack of minutes for the striker.

Aston Villa, Bristol City and a host of other Championship clubs have been linked with a loan move for the rest of the season.

However, after impressing Mikel Arteta in training since his return to the squad, the manager has decided to keep the striker for the coming months.

Arsenal boss Arteta calls on players to fill Aubameyang’s shoes

The Athletic report that Arsenal's priority was for Nketiah to go back on loan, and the club hierarchy wanted him to complete a move to Bristol City.

However, Arteta has kept a close eye on the striker and has decided he wants to keep him at the club.

The fans are cautiously optimistic about the move, with the realism of his need for game time balanced with the excitment at a huge opportunity for the youngster.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will miss the next three games after the club's appeal against his red card at Crystal Palace was turned down, meaning he will be out for crucial Premier League games against Sheffield United and Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Alexandre Lacazette has not scored in his last six games, and Gabriel Martinelli could be heading to an Olympic qualifying tournament with Brazil.
