A huge chain was seen left outside a supermarket after thieves attempted to steal an ATM.

The brazen burglar tried their luck at a Co-op store, next to Manchester Crown Court, on Bridge Street, in Spinningfields.

It is believed the driver of a white car attempted to steal the cash machine by chaining it to the vehicle.

However, the driver failed and made off in the car northwards on Dunlop Street.

Police were called to the incident after an alarm was activated at the shop at 4.25am on Friday.
