Huge Cathedral Gardens ice rink will return to Manchester for Christmas

The popular ice rink at Cathedral Gardens will be back in Manchester over the festive period.

The entirely covered, weather-proof rink will be almost twice the size as in previous years to give more space for skating.

It will open later this month for a Halloween-inspired Scare Skate event, before being given the festive treatment to reopen again in early November.

The Skate Manchester rink will remain in place until the new year.

Last year's event had to be called off due to tier restrictions and a nationwide lockdown, with saw many of the country's Christmas events cancelled.

But the ice rink's bosses have worked to deliver an even bigger ice rink this year to make up for lost time.

It will also operate with a reduced capacity.

Rob Derry, ice director at Arena, which coordinates the event, says: "We’ve gone all out to ensure Skate Manchester is a celebration of winter 2021 to remember.

"After last year’s lockdown Christmas period and off the back of the huge success of Scare Skate 2021, we’re excited to be bringing in Christmas 2021 in true family festive spirit!

"Whether it’s indoor or outdoor, we’re prepared for all the elements meaning a magical experience can be created for all, no matter the weather!"

Skate Manchester will return to Cathedral Gardens between November 1, 2021 and January 3, 2022.

Tickets are available from skatemanchester.com and start from £13 for adults and £11 for children, with discounted family and season tickets also available.
