Huge cash boost awarded to Bothwell Futures team

The team at Bothwell Futures have received a huge cash boost towards their new multifunctional community hub at the former Bothwell Library.

Blantyre Asda community champion Mary Sutherland was delighted to present the Futures team with a £22,500 Spaces and Places grant from the Asda Foundation which will help create a safe social hub in the village for both residents and visitors.

Mary told Lanarkshire Live: "I was over the moon when I received the news about the funding! Bothwell Futures genuinely deserves this. The volunteers work so hard within the community.

"The donation will make such a massive difference and help a lot of people, especially those living in the area that may feel lonely.

"Bothwell Futures puts the community at the forefront of every decision and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for them and the entire area.’’

Kevin- Moore, chairman of Bothwell Futures, told Lanarkshire Live : “We want to ensure the Bothwell community is full of opportunity, and this grant will play a big part in reaching our long-term goal. Thank you to everyone at Asda for the incredible support.’’

Bothwell Futures have outlined big plans for Bothwell Library after completing a community asset transfer of the building earlier this summer.

The group officially took over ownership of the premises last month and will carry out repairs and renovation of the site, with the project expected to be completed by November.

These works will include repairs to the roofing and windows, with better access for disabled people also being installed.

The main library space and some of the back-office rooms will be developed, with a new staircase and modern toilets also due to be built.

The move promises to pave the way for the future of Bothwell residents and provide a free social space for younger generations.
